South Plains Rural Health Food Bank & Community Garden

Growing Together for a Healthier Levelland

Since 2011, the South Plains Rural Health Food Bank in Levelland has worked to combat food insecurity with support from the South Plains Food Bank in Lubbock. Funded primarily through patient services and grants like those from the Maximus Foundation, the food bank serves all community members, regardless of patient status. With food sourced through purchases, local donations, and contributions from partners such as Walmart, Costco, and area farmers, SPRHS provided food boxes to over 5,000 individuals in 2023 alone.

To expand its impact, SPRHS is establishing a Community Garden in Levelland to increase access to fresh produce, empower residents through education, and foster a sense of connection and purpose. The garden will serve as a hub for healthy eating, sustainability, youth engagement, and community-building, enhancing the well-being of individuals and families throughout the area. By cultivating both food and relationships, SPRHS continues its mission of promoting health, resilience, and opportunity in rural West Texas. Expected opening in Summer of 2025.

Food Bank hours are M-F 8a – 5p for regular food boxes. Clients are screened following TEFAP regulations with most families qualifying for assistance if they receive other forms of state services (SNAP, Medicaid/Medicare, SSI, TANF, School Lunch Assistance, ect.) or if they are at 200% or below the federal poverty level. Clients are required to show id when they pick up this food box every 6 weeks. Donation boxes are not screened and do not require any id. They are on a first come, first serve basis, M-W-F at 9am while supplies lasts. Clients can pick up as many times as needed during the week. Anticipated opening: Summer 2025
